Overview

Restored clan progression alerts for Bannerlord's character screen.

WPS Character Level Alerts brings back the progression reminders players relied on before recent Bannerlord updates made them harder to see.

The mod restores the character menu notification light and adds a clean (+N) marker to the character dropdown for clan heroes who have progression choices waiting. That means you can see who needs attention without opening every companion, family member, or clan hero one at a time.

What It Restores

Character menu notification - Restores the alert above the character menu icon when the player clan has pending character updates.

Dropdown progression markers - Adds (+N) before each eligible hero in the character screen dropdown.

Focus point detection - Counts unspent focus points.

Attribute point detection - Counts unspent attribute points.

Perk choice detection - Counts available perk selections.

Clan-wide coverage - Checks the main hero, family members, companions, and other applicable living adult heroes in the player clan.

Lightweight By Design

This mod intentionally keeps the implementation small. It does not replace Bannerlord's character screen prefab, does not inject custom UI XML, and does not patch game methods.

No Harmony dependency.

No Mod Configuration Menu dependency.

No UIExtenderEx dependency.

No external mod dependency.

No XP, perk, focus, attribute, hero, clan, or save changes.

No custom save data.

Because it does not write custom save data, it is designed to be added to or removed from an existing campaign without leaving mod-owned save records. Back up important saves before changing any load order.

Why The Dropdown Uses (+N)

Bannerlord's current dropdown row only exposes plain text to the character selector. Recreating the old shield icon would require heavier UI replacement or widget injection.

The (+N) marker keeps the mod compatible, readable, and more informative because it shows how many pending updates that hero has.

Requirements

  • Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord singleplayer.
  • Base-game modules: Native, SandBoxCore, and Sandbox.
  • External mod dependencies: none; Bannerlord.Harmony, Bannerlord.MBOptionScreen (MCM), and UIExtenderEx are not required.
  • Use the compatible file listed for your Bannerlord version on Nexus Mods; no broader game-version range is stated.

Installation

  1. Download the latest file.
  2. Extract WPS_CharacterLevelAlerts into Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules\.
  3. Enable [WPS] Character Level Alerts in the Bannerlord launcher.
  4. Load or start a singleplayer campaign.

Compatibility

  • Designed for Bannerlord's vanilla character developer screen and the NavalDLC/Warsails character developer screen.
  • Designed for existing campaigns and does not add custom save data.
  • May not show dropdown markers if another mod fully replaces the character developer screen or character selector view model.
  • The campaign map notification can still work independently from the dropdown marker.

Troubleshooting

If no (+N) marker appears, confirm that the selected living adult hero belongs to the player clan and has an unspent focus point, attribute point, or available perk choice.

Confirm WPS Character Level Alerts and the Native, SandBoxCore, and Sandbox modules are enabled, then reopen the character screen so the selector can rebind.

If the campaign-map alert works but dropdown markers do not, temporarily test without another mod that replaces the character developer screen or selector view model.

When reporting a reproducible issue on the mod's Nexus page, include the Bannerlord version, whether NavalDLC/Warsails is active, the affected hero, and a complete mod list.
